Johns Island Golf Club Completes $6.5 Million Renovation

After two years and $6.5 million in renovations, the Golf Club at Briar’s Creek is taking a mulligan on its course and facilities.

The Rees Jones-designed golf course that spans 900 acres on Johns Island underwent a complete transformation. Tees, fairways and greens were re-grassed and restored to their original size and an updated drainage system was installed. Specific holes were further improved upon to create more challenges for players and allow for water features and maximum course views.

“The improvements have undoubtedly added to the superb quality of our course and facilities while maintaining its character,” Superintendent Kyle Bibler said. “We are committed to providing our members with the most excellent golf experience in the Low Country.”

Additions to the private club, which is majority owned by McNair Interests, include the opening of the Robert C. McNair Golf Performance Center and three on-site cottages that feature a nine-hole putting course in front.

Within the 1,000-square-foot performance facility, golfers can practice their strokes in a dedicated putting room, course simulator and hitting bay that provides cameras and swing and ball flight monitors. There’s also a club fitting room.

The Heron, Ibis and Osprey cottages are now open to guests.

“Each of these improvements have realized Bob McNair’s vision to create a golf club that offers state-of-the-art facilities along with the highest possible level of service,” Director of Golf Eve VanderWeele said.
